International Panel Discussion "Technology and Educational Change: A world perspective"
Panel members or presenters could share major reform efforts and the vision for technology in the plans. Then hold discussions about synergies that exist and potential for building a network/db of exemplary models from these reform efforts sponsored by ISTE and International community - the International Reform Showcase" which could become a learning spaces for teachers and others interested in what technology looking like in this big flat world...
Julie's ideas:
At Qatar Academy there is major innovation in education here, especially in educational technology and e-Learning. I am working with my colleagues and also wider campus personnel to roll out an 'E-Learning for Life' 5-year technology plan (would love your input!) that brings Qatar Academy onto the cutting edge of learning with IT. We are currently reviewing the NETS standards and how they align with the constructivist needs of the IB curriculum, the academic standards of the school and the vision for improved educator skills and awareness of how best to integrate or embed technology (in all its forms) into learning.
I am sure there are a number of similar stories globally that need to be shared! Suggestion: Look at international 'stories', let people 'tell their stories'. The power of storytelling is becoming more widely accepted. This is not about always having the solutions but about sharing the stories of planning, development and growth to improve learning.
As a means of providing a variety on the panel, choose stories that feature either different geographic and economic areas and stories that feature different stages of growth.
For example:
What are the different international setting we want to draw attention to? Government-based, international schools, sponsored schools?
Do we have a story about successful or emerging integration of NETS.S (the new one) in an international setting?
Do we have a story of successful or emerging PD in an international setting?
Do we have a story of successful or emerging 21st century learning supported by technology in an international setting?
Do we have a story of struggle and overcoming obstacles that could be an inspiration to others? (I am thinking of the 3rd prize winner from SIGTel online learning awards this year from the Philippines..this is a good story about overcoming obstacles
Do we have non-Americans (apologies in advance) who have stories from non-American based initiatives?
Do we have a story about leadership to transform using educational technology initiatives in an international setting?
